TOYOTA 4RUNNER TRD-PRO

BUILT BY SUMMIT 4X4 COMPANY

THE Build

Where do you even begin with a vehicle as built out as Jacks. Kitted to the nines in off-road and overlanding gear, this vehicle has seen a dramatic transformation within the last year. What started as a 2016 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro has developed into a self-reliant off-road animal. Equipped with a locker, skids, steel front and rear bumpers, recovery equipment, on-board power, long-range fuel tanks and more, this daily driver also seconds as an exceptional long distance overland build.

“I wanted to build a truck that both my wife and I could travel in comfortably” Jack said when asked what the source of his inspiration was. With aspirations to travel more of the west coast, Jack meticulously began picking his accessories with the help of the team at Summit 4x4 Company. With a laundry list of upgrades, the Summit Crew got to work transforming what was already a capable off-road rig into an absolute beast.

Lighting is one thing this vehicle has plenty of. With the goal of being able to illuminate anything and everything, to include animals at night on his way home, Jack elected for the suite of Baja Designs accessories. A 30” OnX6 light bar sits nicely within the CBI Covert front bumper and alongside his Warn EVO 10S winch. White lensed LP4’s were installed on top of the bumper to provide additional fill light while the Toyota OEM fog lights were replaced with SAE Baja Designs fog lights, a must have upgrade that’ll help cut through dust, snow, and rain. An obvious lighting upgrade would be the Morimoto XB headlights and tail lights which incorporate LED bulbs and DRL’s that provide both an aggressive look and dramatically improve visibility at night when compared to the OEM variety. Just before the A-pillars you’ll notice Baja Designs Squadron Pro’s fitted to Rago Fabrication ditch light mounts which help to complete the look and provide adequate light coverage on both sides of the vehicle.  This combination of front end lighting offers Jack peace of mind when off-road, illuminating anything and everything in his path.

Atop the vehicle sits an RCI full-length roof rack which Jack uses to store his Maxtrax and various overlanding and camping accessories. Beneath the 4Runner you’ll find Hefty Fabworks and RCI skids in addition to Elka adjustable shocks, Camburg upper control arms and billet Icon trailing arms. Engine and performance modifications consist of a CSF radiator for optimal cooling in addition to a DC Power alternator, Odyssey Group 31 battery, R4T battery kit. Alpha carbon fiber snorkel, Borla exhaust system, and ARB differential breathers. In order to return that OEM feel after the lift and with the added weight, Jack elected to install 4.56 gears, an upgrade he noticed immediately.

To keep his gear neat and secure, Jack opted for a Truck Vault drawer system in the rear cargo area in addition to a 2000W Renogy inverter, Rago molle panels, a Set Power fridge with tilt slide, as well as plenty of auxiliary red, amber, and white lighting.  One of the more prominent features of the rear of this vehicle would have to be the Dissent Off-Road bumper with rear swing out. This robust armor solution not only improves Jack’s departure angles, but also offers additional storage, features a integrated table, and relocates the spare tire from under the 4Runner in order to make room for the 24 gallon Long Range America fuel tank. To complete Jack’s armor package, he elected for RCI rock sliders which second as side steps.

With so many aftermarket upgrades on this build, we’re sure we’re missing a few items from the modifications list. As Jack’s adventures take him to the far reaches of the west coast we’re certain the build will continue to evolve, the sole purpose being to eliminate any potential weak points and improve long-range adventure travel. Regarded as an exceptional overlanding platform from the start, this Toyota 4Runner build was a fun one for the team at Summit 4x4 Company who were able to transform this daily driver into a vehicle capable of handling a multitude of conditions and terrain.
